Spawning Koi

These photo's show Koi fry that have developed after being spawned at the Ogata Koi Farm, Japan.

These Koi fry were spawned from Parent Ogata Koi.

The Ogata Koi fry are culled or selected through around six times between the size of fry to 10-12cm.

The culling process will enable the Koi Farmer to select the very best Koi from the spawning.

Maybe one of these Koi fry is a future grand champion!

Mr Ogata spawns between 3,000,000 to 5,000,000 Koi fry a year from his parent Koi, making the culling of the Koi fry a busy and very important time of year.
